Carrion, Black Kydex
Carrion, Black Kydex
I developed the Carrion with one goal “Make a knife that compliments my scavenger mindset”. I have always lived in very rural areas; bout an hour from any town and it’s not uncommon to need a knife 10-20 times a day for various tasks. I wanted a knife that wasn’t too big but was robust enough that it would still have no problem busting through the rib cage of any animal I may encounter. I designed the handle to be a comfortable 3.5-finger blade in a forward grip and 4-finger in a reverse grip (edge away) with plenty of pommel to wrap your thumb over. (However, I do find this knife to be uncomfortable in Pikal grip, check out the Lion Tamer if you’re interested in Pikals.)
My signature Carrion is tightly wrapped in a jute cord to keep it thin and provide a superior grip. Then I impregnate it with a special epoxy designed to seal and further stiffen this material. This makes the wrap as hard as micarta but leaves it with a dry texture that delivers a grip that will withstand harsh environments. While this wrap has been popularized all over the knifemaking community, the original Burnt Jute Wrap is iconic to the Carrion.
